How to access services at BreakThrough Psychology
Listed below are several ways that you can access services
SELF-REFERRAL
If you wish to self-refer and you are not seeking a rebate from Medicare or a third party then you can contact BreakThrough Psychology directly.
GP REFERRAL
If your reason for therapy relates to a mental health problem (for example depression, anxiety) then your GP may be able to refer you under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This entitles you to an initial 6 sessions under the Medicare Better Access initiative. Please see your GP before commencing psychological counselling as the GP will need to assess that you have a diagnosable mental health condition in order to be eligible for the Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Rebate for a standard 50 minute consultation under a Mental Health Treatment Plan is $87.45 (maximum of 10 sessions per calendar year).
PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE
If you have extras on private health insurance you may be able to access counselling without a GP referral.
Please contact your insurance provider to check eligibility for rebate for services provided by a Registered Psychologist.
THIRD PARTY REFERRALS
Referrals under Worker’s Compensation or Motor Vehicle Accident insurance require written confirmation that psychological counselling has been approved, and that the insurance company is accepting your claim. The claim number is required.
Third party referrals only cover cost of attended sessions. If you do not attend an appointment or cancel at late notice then the fee will be charged directly to you. Other costs such as recommended books, DVD’s are not covered by third party insurance.
