BreakThrough Psychology was established by Heather Lowndes in 2007 in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. The practice relocated to Bunbury, Western Australia at the beginning of 2016.

After graduating University, Heather has worked in regional Victoria, Darwin, and since 1998 in Western Australia. Heather has worked in a range of community settings, and in the areas of mining (including delivery of services for FIFO workers and their families), disability and corrections (both community and prison-based). 

Between 2007 and 2015 Heather worked in private practice in Kalgoorlie, and moved to Bunbury in 2016 to establish practice. 

Heather is experienced in working with people with a range of problems that may impact on mental health and day to day functioning, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, unhealthy lifestyle choices, communication and relationship difficulties. She has extensive experience in private practice and worked across many aspects of mental health.

During her career Heather has delivered training to small groups and organisations in relation to weight management and healthy lifestyle, confidence and assertiveness, communication strategies, team building, anger management, working with adolescents and mental health, domestic violence.

Since 2000 Heather has held various positions on the committee of the Goldfields-Esperance Branch and the WA South West Branch of the Australian Psychological Society, including 3 years as Branch Chair. She has also participated on a range of levels in local community and sporting groups.

Heather continues to undertake extensive ongoing professional development to ensure her knowledge and skills are current and in line with the latest scientific research.
